Nature knows mathematics! (or is it the other way around?)

While walking along the road the other day, I took a closer look at the Queen Anne's Lace flower. The first thing that struck me was its pentagonal shape, but, on closer inspection, I saw the self-similarity so prevalent in Nature:

This flower was scanned, not photographed. I put the flower on my scanner and used a blue manila folder for the background.
